Seoul city's "Saturday Masterpiece Concert": Traditional Korean Performing Arts

Every Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m., Seoul offers Korean traditional performing arts at the National Gugak Center.  Seoul founded the National Gugak Center to preserve and expand traditional Korean music and dance.  The word "gugak" refers to all of the Korean music from Korean lands which has a history of over 5,000 years ago! The performances consist of traditional music, song, and dance by those who have been officially designated as luminaries of the genre.  The talented performers gratify both connoisseurs and international visitors through stunning performances.

The Saturday performances have been held for over 20 years with elite performers promoting the rich history of Korean performing arts.  A ticket costs 10,000 won per person and new programs are presented each month.  A vast overview of 62 varieties of Korean classical court and folk performances and concerts are presented on an ongoing basis throughout the year.  The performances have been proclaimed as "Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity" by UNESCO.

"Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter at Cheonggyecheon" : Photo Exhibition in Seoul



The Cheong Gye Cheon Museum is hosting "Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter at Cheonggyecheon" photo exhibition until November 10, 2013.  The exhibition will showcase 7 years of impressive photos taken by the Seoul government since the reopening of the stream in 2006.  The exhibition will also feature winning entries from photo competitions throughout the years.

Seoul Presents Paul Gauguin: Voyage into the Myth

Seoul Museum of Art (SEMA) is holding an exhibition in honor of French Post-impressionist artist Paul Gauguin.  The event is called Gauguin and After: Voyage into the Myth and it will be the first-ever comprehensive survey of Gauguin's artistic career presented to a Korean audience.  Over 60 of his works will be displayed until September 29, 2013.  The exhibition at Seoul Museum of Art will showcase artworks on loan from 30 major museums around the world, including Musee d'Orsay in Paris, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and the Pushkin Fine Arts Museum in Moscow.

The Seoul venue will be open everyday except on Mondays.  Tickets cost 8,000 won for elementary students, 10,000 won for middle and high school students and 13,000 won for the general audience.  Visit Seoul Museum of Art to view Paul Gauguin's timeless masterpieces!

Seoul presents 16th "Fringe All Night" for Indie Culture

The 16th annual Seoul Fringe Festival aims to present and support the indie culture by exposing independent artists all around Seoul.  The festival will be held from now until September 14, 2013, at 17 locations all around Hongdae.  For the first time this year, parts of the festival will also be held around Seoul World Cup Stadium.

"Fringe All Night" will have over 100 teams showcasing live music and dance performances all throughout the streets of Hongdae.  Venues will be held at cafes, clubs, and galleries for the various artists participating in the art festivities.  Emerge yourself in the indie art world by attending the Seoul Fringe Festival!
